Computer Fundamentals (CIS101)

This is a hybrid course conducted primarily online. It is designed to provide an overview of the computer environment is provided as a means to prepare the student for his/her academic and professional careers. This includes discussion on how computing technology plays a critical role in society and industry. Additional topics of discussion will include: Main hardware components; System Software; Application Software, Internet resources, Networking and Security. The Microsoft Office suite will be used to practice and learn Word processing, Data Management and Presentation skills.

Four in-class meetings are required for introductory instruction and exam purposes. Meeting dates are: All meetings will take place in the Classroom Building Room B106 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Most student-instructor interaction is conducted with Buffalo State E-mail. Some Internet blogging (i.e. web logs) may also be used for supplemental commentary. Information on Buffalo State E-mail and other student resoures can be found at the Buffalo State Student Portal

Instructor provided course material is available below. For access, send me an E-mail with your BANNER ID and I will provide an access password. This will also be provided at the first meeting.

Web based software is utilized for instruction and assignment work. The software is configured as a self-paced environment that relies heavily on the student being disciplined in his/her efforts to complete assigned work. Information on this software is included with the required text and available below with other course material. Lab assignment work is based on this software and counts for 35% of your final grade.
